Frequently asked questions
Do I really need a cost manager?
Yes, people seem to overlook cost management in projects. And yet, it is one of the key fundamental criteria for the success of a project. It can’t be an afterthought. Analysis shows that good cost management not only manages the risk of the project effectively, but, more often than not, pays for itself and more through cost savings and risk reduction.
What is risk management?
Many people think it’s simply an identification of the risks posed by a project. We challenge this and think differently. Our approach to risk management is based on methodical structure or identification, analysis of severity and probability, calculation of cost, calculator of appropriate contingency allowance for the project, formation of mitigation strategies, and designating ownership. We drive not only the mitigation of risk but also the pursuit of opportunities for the betterment of the project. And maintain regular tracking of them so that there are no surprises.
Why shouldn’t I use my design team to manage my costs?
We’ve been through a rigorous education specific to construction, economics, and risk management. On average, the majority of design professionals in the industry who provide cost management services have undertaken an education of approximately 3 months in this particular area. Our professionals are educated to a base level of 3 years post-graduate, and at least 2 years to achieve professional qualification.
When you say, you’re an extension of my team, what level of service can I expect?
Large, established organisations often have an existing Project Control structure that they are already operating and don’t wish to change their setup. In such instances, we can provide professionals to operate within your structure and the organisation’s governance. This way, we work as a direct extension to your team. Simply put, we gel as part of the team and organisation, whereby you can expect a level of dedication from us that you would expect from any solid performing employee.
I have a project in mind. Can you recommend suppliers/vendors/builders for me?
Yes, we have extensive experience in the market and a considerable network that we leverage on our clients’ behalf. Typically, we would approach two to four suppliers to provide a quotation to execute the work to ensure that the best value to the client is obtained. The choice of vendors depends heavily on the nature and scale of the work, but we will guide you through this process. What’s more, the airtight contracts we negotiate are there to protect you so it’s the vendor – not you – who is liable in the case of delays.
What if the scope of my project increases? Are Quantum able to provide more support than initially anticipated?
Absolutely – we are familiar with the changing needs of our customers and experienced in adapting to their requirements. It is not unusual for a project to have multiple phases or progression of project parts being dependent upon funding approval. We can assist fully in planning for this uncertainty and adapt as necessary.
What happens when the project is finished?
We don’t just disappear when handover occurs. There are many things necessary to tidy up on a project prior to truly closing it out, such as ensuring that the contract has been fully adhered to, collating operation and maintenance manuals, rectifications of defects, releasing of performance and payment bonds, end of year and final inspections, final accounts and legal support if any disputes remain unresolved.
Additionally, we’re enthusiastic about reaping the benefits of project lessons learned to make sure we are continuously improving our service.
Do we need to do it the Quantum way or can we do it my way?
We have a tried and tested project delivery structure that we would love to implement on your project. That being said, we are also happy to work with your processes if you feel they are satisfactory.
However, why choose one? With your collaboration we can challenge your existing systems and aid in optimising them.
Our project is very complex. How do we make sure you have people with the right experience?
We undertake and deliver projects of huge technical and/or organisational complexity regularly. Our staff are trained and specialised in dealing with such complexities and we provide the appropriate profiles to suit the project requirements. Our tried and tested methodologies are structured in such a way that project complexities are compartmentalised and executed in a logical and structured manner. We are very confident that we can structure the delivery of your project so that it is set up for success.
Can I see examples of your previous work?
Absolutely – we have a host of previous project case studies and client testimonials to give you some idea of our standard of service. In addition, we would be very happy to meet with you to discuss our experience and expertise relevant to your project. Click here to set up a consultation call.
What languages do you operate in?
We employ a variety of nationalities and can operate in a number of languages, such as Danish, Swedish, Spanish, German and more. However, English is our corporate language and we have the most availability of profiles that speak English.
I’m a designer and have project delivery responsibilities as a part of my contract. However, I would rather concentrate on design. Could you do the project delivery aspect for me?
Yes. We work with a number of design organisations to deliver cost management and/or project management services on their behalf. These collaborations work seamlessly and we represent your company with the utmost professionalism and service.
Do Quantum only handle projects in the Pharmaceutical and Data Centre sectors? What sectors do you operate in?
Although we are heavily involved in certain specialist sectors we have a wide ranging experience in other sectors also such as hospitality, infrastructure, commercial, retail and many more. Whether you have a big or a small project we would be happy for you to get in contact.
How much do you cost?
The cost of our services naturally depends upon the scope of the services and the nature of the project. Since every project is unique, there is never a one size fits all solution to the delivery. However, our market rates are competitive and, most importantly, through managing risk and cost we typically cover the cost of our services through tangible savings in the project. We have options on both hourly and fixed fee arrangements.
For more information about the ways we price our services, visit our “Pricing” page.
And of course feel free to get in contact for a no strings attached discussion on how we can help you and your project and the associated fees.
